ABADID 2...IDPWD & iDA

Since 1992 December 3rd has been United Nations International Day for People With Disabilities (IDPWD). And this year's theme is 'Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want'. This year also coincides with the anniversary decade of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with DIsabilities (CRPD).

It's unfortunate that in the UK disability currently equates more with 'shirking' than celebration, even so soon after the applause and coverage of the 2012 Special Olympics. From the Inspirational Porn surrounding the Special Olympiads to the Disability Hate Crime rise of over 41% in 2015 there seems to be a huge difference in attitudes, neither of which promote a healthy culture for a disabled person to exist.

If one of your goals as a deaf artist or artist with disabilities is to develop your work then an application to Arts & Disability's (ADF) iDA Grant Scheme might help. The scheme opened this year on November 22nd and closes on January 9th at 12 noon. Guidelines and application forms can be found at the link. For any other information not found on the website you can telephone (028) 9023 9450 or email at info@adf.ie
